For one semester, the study programs Geography at the University of Bern and Transdisciplinarity at te Zurich University of the Arts will collaborate and look at Baden's past and present transformation. The topics include, among others, the characteristics of the thermal water, the tradition of spas, hydropower, but also conflicts over limited natural resources and how the city is marketing its history to outsiders. This is followed by the development of video installations in publicly accessible spaces by the 25 students.

The Institute of Geography at the University of Bern focuses on physical geography, which deals with landscapes and material cycles, as well as human geography, which deals with urban research, sustainability, social issues and cultural concepts. The mLAB - as a link between science and research - will accompany the process.

The Transdisciplinarity Studies of the Department of Cultural Analysis and Mediation at the Zurich University of the Arts develops artistic and creative processes beyond the various disciplines from which the students originate: Visual Arts, Music, Nursing, Gastronomy, Composition, Dance, Dramaturgy, Industrial Design, Film, Fashion Design, Theater Education, Architecture, History, Philosophy of Science, etc. Prof. Irene Vögeli will accompany the project for the ZHdK.

As part of the university collaborations students from different disciplines will venture into “hot topics”. They are challenged to interpret, connect and contextualize the complex natural, social and historical interconnections on site. After an extensive research phase, their audio-visual works will be made available for a larger audience to explore.
